Reflective Narrative:
4.1 MLO 4 is base off of classes that help us in our goal of completing our senior Capstone. For me that was JAPN 403, 404, and WLC 400. Through these classes I have been able to put together an academic paper on the topic of travel preferences of College students in America and Japan. Although I have learned the basics of research methodologies though completion of papers in other classes, these upper-division 400 level classes showed in depth how to looking for sources and build a proper academic paper and PowerPoint. I feel that JAPN 403: Precapstone helped me the most in finding sources for my topic and how to use those sources to their best. On the other hand JAPN 404: helped the most in teaching us the differing Japanese methodologies when in come writing the paper, vs what is on our PowerPoint, vs what we say in our presentations.
4.2 Throughout all of the classes I have taken, technology had been part of the curriculum. Technology has now become an essential part of how the Japanese major works in my opinion. In order to research certain topics pertaining to what I was doing in class, I had to use the computer. To find research materials for the literature portion of my capstone I had to use many different online databases including the CSUMB online library database. The technology used in JAPN 403, 404, and WLC 400 has sped up the process of completing my research project.
4.3 Through MLO 4 I have been able to use convenient means to create and analyze data for my senior capstone project. Technology has also enabled me to show off what I have learned throughout the Japanese Major in the form of an online e-portfolio. Although many classes I took in the Japanese major used technology to a small extent, in all of my 400 level class's technology became a necessity in completing the classes. For example in WLC 400 we had to gather data through our Google docs survey and analyze that data through excel. I created an excel for my English survey results (Example 1) and Japanese survey results (Example 2).
